We have invited BX Alumni/Scholars from different cohorts, academic disciplines, and career fields to serve as our peer mentors and provide guidance to mentees. Apart from sharing about their study abroad experience under the AFLSP, mentors are also tasked to offer support and advice in various areas such as career, personal development, networking, workplace cultures, etc. As representatives of the BX community, they are committed to empowering fellow community members, promoting intercultural learning, and building bridges. CHEN Xian (Ken) is the Engineering Lead at BlackRock in Shanghai. He previously worked at BlackRock’s Budapest office, which followed a stint at Rakuten as product manager. He is a graduate of Hitotsubashi ICS and is eager to meet BX alumni and scholars in the BX community.

GAO Tianqi

BX Alumnus, 2014 Cohort
Kyoto University

Since November 2021, GAO Tianqi has been based in Hangzhou, where he works for a company that develops systems that facilitate the smart sorting of agricultural products. He is also currently pursuing his doctoral degree in bio-sensing engineering at Kyoto University’s Division of Environmental Science and Technology. Prior to relocating to Hangzhou, Tianqi was a special visiting researcher at Keio University’s Keio Haptics Research Center, where his research interests included artificial intelligence applications, cable-driven parallel robots, and fluorescence bio-sensing technology. While he was working towards his B.S. degree in biosystems engineering at Zhejiang University, he also served as a research student at Tohoku University’s Department of Bioengineering and Robotics. As a Bai Xian Scholar, he earned his master’s degree in environmental science and technology in 2016 at Kyoto University.

Sho HAYASHI

Peking University

Sho HAYASHI is a sustainability and innovation policy specialist and social entrepreneur. After working in Tokyo for several years as a management consultant and venture capitalist, he founded SHOCKby, Inc., and has been involved in numerous projects focusing on public policy (environment and sustainability), entrepreneurship education, and business development and market entry for social impact start-ups. He also serves as a committee member of the Innovation Policy Working Group at the Ministry of Economy, Technology and Industry of Japan, and was previously a teaching fellow at Harvard Business School.

KIM Hyun Kyung

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

KIM Hyun Kyung (Hazel) earned her Mphil in environmantal engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Following her graduation, she moved to Singapore to further her career, working in product marketing at KOTRA and Amazon Web Services (AWS). She currently works at Google as a partner experience specialist.

Ryutaro KURIHARA currently works as an associate at management consulting firm, Kearney, in Tokyo. He also worked briefly at an education NPO shortly after earning his dual master’s degree from the University of Tokyo and Peking University. Misato NAGAKAWA

Peking University

Misato NAGAKAWA is passionate about peacebuilding in East Asia. In addition to creating special programs at GLOBIS Management School as a senior associate and teaching at Musashi University, she also runs her own education initiative, Peace Ambassador Project in East Asia, at Wake Up Japan, a non-profit organization. During her master’s degree studies at Peking University, she attended the 2015 BXAI Summer Program. She is also a member of one of the winning teams of the 2021 Bai Xian Project Award, and chosen as Davos 50 by the World Economic Forum in 2023.

XU Man received her master’s degree in economics from Kyoto University and lived in Kyoto for about seven years before moving to Tokyo, where she is currently based. LEE Moongyung

Born and raised in South Korea, LEE Moongyung (Moon) serves as an investment officer (sustainability and climate change) at African Development Bank (AfDB) through its Young Professional Program and is based in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) starting from February 2022. Prior to joining AfDB, Moon worked for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London focusing on green economy and climate action. Having grown up learning about the importance of caring for the unheard and vulnerable, Moon has continued on this path in her studies and work, actively participating in various social impact start-ups that target social challenges. She earned her master’s degree in public administration at Tsinghua University through the AFLSP.

Linh NGUYEN

Originally from Vietnam, Linh NGUYEN has lived in the US, China, and Singapore. After earning her bachelor’s degree in political science at Yale University, she attended Yenching Academy of Peking University to pursue her master’s degree in China studies. Tripathi Naveen

Based in Tokyo, Tripathi Naveen is a manager of the finance department at Nissan Motor Corporation. Outside of his full-time job, Naveen pursues his dream of being an entrepreneur by exploring different business opportunities. He is currently working on a new business that develops customized eco-friendly packaging solutions. He received his MBA from Hitotsubashi ICS through the AFLSP and was also part of the winning team of the first Bai Xian Alumni Initiative Award (AIA), receiving seed funding to launch a platform for skilled volunteers.

Ryosuke OHMORI

Ryosuke (Rio) OHMORI is originally from Japan and has also lived in the US, Taipei, Philippines, and Mainland China. Before AFLSP, he received MBA from National Taiwan University. Then he received his MPA from Tsinghua University through the AFLSP. Currently he is based in Tokyo working at a biotechnology start-up, CellFiber Go., Ltd., as head of sales. He has experience working in start-ups as well as various industries including information technology services, public sector business, and electronics manufacturing. Apart from Japanese, he also speaks fluent English and conversational Mandarin.

PENG He

PENG He (Colin) earned his MBA from Hitotsubashi ICS in 2017 and has worked at TISCO (a Chinese steel company), Sony China, and Honda China, and is currently working at BAIC, a Chinese auto company. He hopes to share his insights on working in business and marketing in China with fellow Bai Xian Scholars and Alumni, as well as his experiences in job hunting across industries, adapting to Japanese culture, and applying to graduate schools in North America. Colin is also interested in engaging BX community members in discussions about mental well-being and dealing with pressure.

Fumiaki SANO

Fumiaki SANO has over 10 years of China-Japan cross-border business experience. Since visiting China during his high school years, Fumiaki, who is originally from Japan, has held a deep interest in solving Chinese social issues. He earned his MBA from Tsinghua University in 2017, and is a director at Green Tech Consulting, a Chinese green tech start-up. He also has experience providing consulting services to both Chinese and Japanese clients including start-ups, venture capital firms, investment banks, etc.

Nature lover, hiker, climber, and environmental activist, TANG An is passionate about protecting the beauty of nature. She works as a campaign strategist at Greenpeace East Asia in Taipei, and has previously worked at various environmental NGOs, the United Nations, and academic institutes. WU Siyu (Simon) is an associate of private equity at Lake Bleu Capital and is actively involved in growth investment in healthcare (biotech, medtech, and service) companies in Greater China and Asia. He received his master’s degree in engineering from the University of Tokyo through the AFLSP, and credits his 2016 BXAI Summer Program experience for leading him towards a career in investment banking.

YANG Teng-Chun

Currently based in Taiwan, YANG Teng-Chun (Walter) is an engineering project manager at Garmin where he develops automotive products for customers. Having strengthened his cross-cultural competence and communication skills through his undergraduate years spent in Taiwan and Japan, Walter works well with his global team as well as Japanese customers, and enjoys communicating with people from diverse backgrounds. ZHANG Yi (Ethan) currently works as general manager of IT at Asahi Kasei (China) Co., Ltd. in Shanghai. Jun Hasuda

Jun HASUDA graduated from Waseda University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics. During his time at Waseda, he became a “buddy” of Bai Xian Scholars and joined the 2017 BXAI Summer Program in Taiwan. He began his career as a PR and communications specialist at Dentsu and recently switched to consulting in the fall of 2021. He is now based in Tokyo and works as a consultant at Kearney.

Ami HIGUCHI received her bachelor’s degree in international studies from Peking University. Being of Chinese and Japanese descent and having lived in Boston, Vancouver, Tokyo, and Beijing, Ami is passionate about bridging cultures and embracing differences, and believes that storytelling can play a big role in promoting cross-cultural understanding. She currently works at Netflix Tokyo in content investment, and was previously at Morgan Stanley’s investment banking division. She loves sharing and learning about different cultural experiences.

After several years of overseas studies in the UK and China, Eunice returned to Seoul in 2017 and worked at KPMG and Bain & Company. She is now based in Abu Dhabi, and works as an associate at the Institute for Global Change.

CAO Youjia (Oliver) is the Finance Controller at ABB Japan (BU TSU) and works and lives between Osaka and Tokyo. He has 10 years of experience in the finance industry from his stints at KPMG (Shanghai/Hong Kong), EY (Shanghai), and Deloitte (Tokyo). Oliver earned his MBA from Hitotsubashi ICS in 2019 through the AFLSP, and is eager to share his life and work experiences with fellow scholars and alumni in Japan. In his leisure time, he loves to travel, play tennis, go to the gym, and talk about baseball.

Currently based in Seoul, CHO Younghyou (Joushua) works within the alternative investments team at NH Investment & Securities (NHIS), analyzing investment opportunities and managing invested assets across acquisition financing, infrastructure, real estate, and aircraft leasing. Prior to joining NHIS, Joushua spent three years in Shanghai and Beijing in marketing, consulting, and consumer research. KIM Daum

Keio University

KIM Daum is a social media manager for the International Olympic Committee as well as executive director of Ethnic Neighborhoods. She is also pursuing her PhD in media and governance at Keio University. Between 2018 and 2021, she was the digital media manager for the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Daum is ethnically Korean but was raised in China and is now based in Japan. She has experience in marketing for digital media platforms and has managed cross-cultural online communities. Her career choices and activities reflect her vision of connecting people across cultures to create a harmonious community from the perspective of Eastern philosophy.

GAO Zongya (Jimmy) is currently working in Tokyo as a marketing manager in the fashion and apparel industry. Hideo NATSUME

Born in Tokyo and raised in Beijing, Hideo NATSUME attended a British international school in Beijing during his early years and later transferred to a local middle school. He then attended Tsinghua University and graduated from the School of Law and School of Economics and Management with a dual degree in 2017 before moving on to pursue his master’s degree at the university’s School of Public Policy and Management. He has worked for a Japanese governmental agency on projects linking Japan and China, and has also written articles for online media such as Nikkei X Trend about Chinese youth and the latest tech trends in China. He is also the author of “清華大生が見た 最先端社会、中国のリアル (Contemporary China Through the Eyes of Japanese Youth: Technology, Education and Culture)” (CrossMedia Publishing). He established a venture capital firm, Asu Capital Partners in March 2023, based in Tokyo that focuses on the theme of Japan to Global.

PAN Ning

PAN Ning is currently a consultant at Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting LLC in Japan, mainly focusing on renewable energy/decarbonization-related projects, especially hydrogen and offshore wind power. Her main clients include the Japanese government (Ministry of the Environment), Japanese local municipalities, as well as private companies from different industries. Ning majored in political science at National Taiwan University and completed her double degree program at Waseda University as a Bai Xian Scholar in 2019. After graduation, she worked at RENOVA Inc., a Japanese major renewable energy developer, as a global business development analyst.

Artyom TSATURYAN(Arty) is the founder of Linguarium, an online education platform that aims to bridge communities and individuals that otherwise would not have a chance to connect. Passionate about social change, individual progress, and healthy living, Artyom has been engaged in the field of education for many years. He is also an advocate of self-improvement and continually strives to learn more about himself as an individual and share his experiences with like-minded people. He loves meeting new people, and has fond memories of meeting lifelong friends and mentors during his time as a Bai Xian Scholar while pursuing his master’s degree at Zhejiang University.

Miyuki TSURU

Miyuki TSURU is currently a market & insights analyst at Australian Trade and Investment Commission. Prior to joining the public sector, she worked as a Senior Associate at PwC in Tokyo. She holds a master’s dual degree from the School of International Studies at Peking University and the Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Tokyo, and was part of the 2018 cohort of Bai Xian Scholars, participating in the summer program in Beijing. Miyuki was born in Tokyo and grew up in Sydney, Australia. After moving back to Asia in her university years, she focused her research on East Asia relations, which subsequently led her to pursue her studies not only in Tokyo, but also in Shanghai (2012), Nanjing (2014-2015), Seoul (2017), and Beijing (2017-2018).

Rokuro WATANABE is currently based in Shanghai and works as a general manager of account service at the Digital Advertising Consortium (DAC) Shanghai. Prior to this role, he was a business promotion development strategy director at DAC Beijing. MOU Jian (Jeff) is currently working as Program Economist at Nissan, with a focus on European B-Segment passenger car, where he supports the company’s investment decision on new vehicle development. Before moving to Japan, Jeff spent four years at Milken Institute, a California-based think tank, in Singapore and was responsible for deepening engagement across a network of supporters including institutional investors, family offices, and individual philanthropists. Jeff has also worked within the marketing team at CME Group. He is pursuing Doctor of Business Administration at Hitotsubashi University where he received an MBA certificate, and he also holds a master’s degree from the National University of Singapore.

Originally from Taipei, CHEN Wei-Yu (Wilson) is currently based in Tokyo and works at Deutsche Bank as a market risk manager. Wilson was a Bai Xian Scholar during his time in the dual MBA program at Peking University and Hitotsubashi ICS, from 2018 to 2021. Prior to pursuing his MBA studies, he worked in the finance industry in Taipei for many years. He speaks Mandarin, English, and Japanese.

DAI Wei received his MBA from Hitotsubashi ICS through the AFLSP in 2021. Currently based in Shanghai, Wei works as a global product marketing manager at Bosch Power Tools. He is passionate about craftsmanship and helps the manufacturing industry pivot towards service providers. He also experienced an interesting career transition, having shifted from being a lab engineer to a marketing and business strategist specializing in emerging markets. He is interested in topics of mental wellness and self-care, and in his leisure time, he enjoys reading, watching movies, and listening to music.

Dane is from the 2020 cohort of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She has a master’s degree in environmental science, policy and management. Currently, Dane is a climate change and sustainability consultant in Hong Kong. She has been working in the sustainability field for 5 years, with special interest in decarbonization, policy and environment, social and governance reporting. She is passionate, open and loves telling stories. She has lots of hobbies, she loves to swim, and has recently taken up doing Wing Chun.

Yuan (Angela) Shao is originated from China. She had lived in the Silicon Valley for many years before moving to Japan in 2020. She is currently based in Tokyo and attending Hitotsubashi University’s MBA program. Her pre-MBA experiences were mainly in the High-tech (particularly AI & Autonomous Driving), Pharmaceutical and Semiconductor industries. As a professional HR practitioner, she has many interesting stories and experiences to share and some good tips for job interview and career development. Her hobbies include skiing, dogs, K-pop dance, stand-up comedy.
