ELIGIBILITY

For students seeking a full-time degree at a Partner University:

Asian students interested in pursuing a full-time degree program at one of our Partner Universities are eligible for the AFLSP Scholarship.  Our Partner Universities currently include: (1) Hitotsubashi University-ICS, (2) Kyoto University, (3) Peking University, (4) Shanghai Jiao Tong University, (5) The Chinese University of Hong Kong, (6) The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, (7) Tsinghua University (from 2024-2025 academic year onwards), and (8) Waseda University.  As each Partner University operates its own independent selection process for the AFLSP, interested students should read through the program offerings of their university of choice here and contact the university’s office or program administrator directly to express their interest and/or apply for admission.

Please note that the AFLSP Scholarship only supports Asian students who wish to study abroad in Asia at one of our Partner Universities.

For exchange students:

If you are a Japanese student from (1) Keio University, (2) Kyoto University, (3) Kyushu University, (4) The University of Tokyo, or (5) Waseda University, you are eligible for the AFLSP Exchange Scholarship at one of our Partner Universities in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai, which currently include (1) Peking University, (2) Shanghai Jiao Tong University, (3) The Chinese University of Hong Kong, (4) The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and (5) Tsinghua University (from 2024-2025 academic year onwards).

Bai Xian Scholars are welcome to pursue their choice of an undergraduate, or master’s degree or exchange program within the restrictions of each Partner University.  For details regarding eligibility, please visit our Eligibility and Selection Criteria  page.  For further information about the specific program offerings and restrictions of each partner university, please visit our Partner Universities page.

Each Partner University operates an independent selection process for the AFLSP in line with BXAI selection criteria. Shortlisted candidates are then recommended by universities to BXAI for final approval. Some candidates may be invited to an interview with BXAI.

Please ensure that you meet the criteria to become a Bai Xian Scholar by reviewing the Eligibility and Selection Criteria page first. Students who wish to apply for the AFLSP Scholarship at our Partner Universities should read through the program offerings of their university of choice here and contact the university’s relevant office or program administrator directly to express their interest and/or apply for admission.

Each Partner University has its own AFLSP Program offerings. Students may apply for the AFLSP Scholarship in their third or fourth academic year depending on the unique offerings of their university, which may be viewed here.

Please note that the AFLSP Scholarship offers each student up to US$25,000 per academic year, or a total of US$50,000 per scholar only. If your degree program covers a period longer than two years, the maximum amount of US$50,000 will be disbursed over the course of your degree program.

Students of Japanese nationality AND who are existing students of (1) Keio University, (2) Kyoto University, (3) Kyushu University, (4) The University of Tokyo, or (5) Waseda University are eligible for the AFLSP Exchange Scholarship. This scholarship supports Japanese students interested in a minimum one-year exchange at one of our Partner Universities in Beijing, Shanghai, or Hong Kong, namely: (1) Peking University, (2) Shanghai Jiao Tong University, (3) The Chinese University of Hong Kong, (4) The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, or (5) Tsinghua University (from 2024-2025 academic year onwards).

Please note that the AFLSP Exchange Scholarship offers each student up to US$12,500 for a one-year exchange program.

No.  The AFLSP is only open to candidates who have never previously been selected as Bai Xian Scholars.

No, scholarship deferment is not allowed.  If scholars decide to defer enrollment to the next academic year and would still like to be a part of the AFLSP, they must reapply for the scholarship.

The BXAI Selection Panel will take into consideration each candidate’s depth of engagement, accomplishments, and aspirations in relation to BXAI’s mission, vision, and core values.  Candidates are expected to demonstrate intellectual and academic potential of a high standard, knowledge of global issues, exceptional character, and a commitment to public service. Interviews are conducted in English, and topics are wide-ranging in nature, with questions designed to assess candidates according to BXAI’s selection criteria, as detailed here.

No.  Not all candidates are selected for an interview with BXAI’s Selection Panel, so not being invited for an interview does not mean that you have been rejected from the program.
