Subject to a maximum commitment of US$50,000 from Bai Xian Asia Institute, the AFLSP Scholarship supports students up to US$25,000 per year, and covers:

  • university tuition fees
  • university matriculation and other fees
  • accommodation fee
  • personal stipend

Financial need is not a consideration in granting the AFLSP Scholarship.

The AFLSP is a full scholarship that supports university tuition fees, accommodation fees, and personal stipend for awardees. In general, BXAI allows the AFLSP Scholar to receive government given grants (not full scholarships) together with the AFLSP Scholarship. However, he/she should not receive other forms of scholarship or funding support from other private organizations in conjunction with the AFLSP Scholarship.

BXAI is happy to examine each case of ancillary financial support in addition to the AFLSP Scholarship, whether scholarship, stipends, or grants individually. Candidates should disclose the receipt of financial support by other organizations to BXAI for approval.

AFLSP Scholars come from many different academic backgrounds and pursue a wide range of degree programs at our 6 Anchor and 10 Participating Universities. Some universities open the AFLSP Scholarship to selected program(s) only. For details, please review the Unique Program Offerings at each of the Anchor Universities here, and refer to the “Participating Universities” page here.

Please click here for more information on “Eligibility and Selection Criteria” and here for “Application Process and Timeline”; then APPLY NOW.

Each Anchor University operates an independent selection process for the AFLSP Scholarship according to the BXAI Selection Criteria; a recommended list of candidates will be submitted to the Institute for final review and approval.

Students who wish to apply for the AFLSP Scholarship at our Anchor Universities should review the Unique Program Offerings at each Anchor University here and apply to the Anchor Universities directly for admission. BXAI encourages students to contact the relevant university office or program administrator to express their interest.

Online application for the Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program (“AFLSP”) will close on 31 January 2017, after which the Participating Universities (“PU”) will be notified and provided access to the data submitted by the applications. Subject to each PU’s own admission timetable, the PU will recommend up to 10 candidates from the Institute’s list of registered candidates for interview by the BXAI Selection Panel. The usual vetting and verification of the candidate’s application will be done by the PU’s admission officer.

Please contact the relevant university office for more information to express your interest.

The BXAI Selection Panel will take into consideration a candidate’s depth of engagement, accomplishments, and aspirations. Candidates are expected to demonstrate intellectual and academic potential of a high standard, exceptional character, knowledge of global issues, and a commitment to public service. Interview topics will therefore be wide-ranging in nature, designed to assess candidates in light of the Institute’s mission and vision.

The BXAI Summer Program is a crucial aspect of the Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program (“AFLSP”) Scholarship as it brings all AFLSP Scholars together to reside in one location over 3 weeks in summer, where they have a common platform to share their AFLSP experiences. All AFLSP Scholars must commit to attending the BXAI Summer Program, and are required to sign a Commitment Letter at the time of accepting the AFLSP Scholarship or AFLSP Exchange Scholarship.

Failure to attend the BXAI Summer Program will result in disqualification from the AFLSP. In addition, the Scholar will be required to repay to BXAI any portion of the Scholarship that he/she has received.

The AFLSP Scholarship supports either one or two-year programs at our 6 Anchor Universities. On the other hand, according to the preference of each Participating University, we may support existing and/or prospective students for up to four-years for selected program(s) at our 10 Participating Universities.

You may apply for the AFLSP Scholarship in your third or fourth academic year depending on the Unique Program Offerings of your university. Students who wish to apply for the AFLSP Scholarship at our Participating Universities should review the Unique Program Offerings at each Participating University here.

Please note that the value of the AFLSP Scholarship is US$25,000 per academic year, and up to a maximum of US$50,000 only. If your degree program covers a period longer than 2 years, the maximum value of the AFLSP Scholarship of US$50,000 will be paid over the course of your degree program.

BXAI will deposit the Scholarship amount into the designated account of the AFLSP Scholar by 2 equal instalments per academic year over the course of the Scholar’s degree program. BXAI will deposit the Scholarship amount into the designated account AFLSP Exchange Scholar by 2 equal instalments over the course of the Scholar’s exchange program.
